BUNBUGRAM. MY SUMMER INSTAGRAM #4 - Chepstow in Wales.

Here it is for you a report of our journey through Devon, Wales and Cornwall, with some tips that could inspire you if planning a trip there. We had a great time while there, stunning nature, peaceful places and a weather very much similar to what I imagined when reading "Wuthering Heights". Nothing so much different from the sunny places described by the writer R. Pilcher (I really liked her novels when I was a teenager)!!! And all their novels took place in Cornwall!!! Anyway, we indeed had the time of our life there.
But let's start with some order now. You'll excuse my english language my dear, and the choice not to write in Italian, my dearest italian readers, but it seems to me the best thing to write a report on our english journey in English, don't you?
We couldn't miss a short visit of Wales during the trip, even if just for a night. There are two stunning bridges overcoming the narrow (about 3 km) bay between England and Wales, and the wonderful sight you have crossing them is worth the travel.
We chose not to stay in Cardiff (Mr. B had already been there and wasn't too much impressed by the town). So we headed north, at Chepstow, in the middle of the countryside (there's a lovely castle you can visit there, one of the best conserved in Wales).
There's a wonderful Golf Resort there, built around an ancient castle, which is now managed by the Marriott hotel company. It's a huge place, one of the loveliest I've ever been. There are rooms right into the castle (where the main hall, the dining places, and meeting rooms are), other in the courtyard, other cottages outside it and other again right on the little lake they have (yes, they do also have a little lake...).
You also have swimming pool and spa facilities, if you like.
We were into the courtyard, surrounded by lovely flowerbeds; all rooms and cottages here were named after a flower's name.

The hotel, once a castle, owned a Chapel and a Cemetery... What a lovely and romantic atmosphere...

A lovely Welsh dinner at the Groes Wen Inn in Chepstow

We chose to have dinner outside the hotel, just to have a hint of a real welsh atmosphere and the little town. So, after a lovely sunset  walk through the immense park of the golf resort, we stopped at the "GROES WEN INN" (a suggestion from the hotel). That was a typical Welsh Inn, so lovely. There were two old ladies dining together at one side of our room and they were so perfect, it seemed to me as I was in a Poirot's series. Food was great, with many traditional meat pies and of course mashed potatoes! I would highly recommend the Groes Wen if you're travelling through Wales.

About the hotel, it was amazing, no doubt. Nature and the castle, were great. Our room was very comfortable and clean, so was the bathroom and of course we had our tea and coffee facilities in our room.
Zest restaurant is quite the kind of restaurant you expect to find in such a luxury hotel. Not too traditional, a little bit too "Nouvelle cuisine"; that's why we decided to dine elsewhere. There is also a bar, with a lovely terrace, where you can drink and have some simple plates, like sandwiches, fish and chips and pies.
The only unfortunate thing was that wifi connection wasn't free. It's quite a shame with a so high category hotel, but during our trip we noticed that the more stars our hotel had, the more it costed the wifi!!  ;)
While some very nice and pretty 3 star hotel had their free wifi.

So, here you are the links, if you're interested in these places:

Ahhhh basta estate!

  2. Ciao Otti!

    Insomma voglio andare in Cornovaglia!!!!

Preferisco esplorare fuori! ;)
WOW, sei troppo avanti, già al natale!!! mitica. Un bacione e buona giornata! msbx
